Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife (OST)

La historia de la Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife (OST) arranca en 1935, cuando nace la Orquesta de Cámara de Canarias, que posteriormente cambiaría su nombre al actual. Durante mas de medio siglo, los diferentes directores (como el maestro S. Sabina y A. Alfonso), e instrumentistas de la OST, realizan una importante labor de difusión musical en el archipiélago canario, y conforman una de las orquestas estables que se ha mantenido en España desde los años 30 hasta la fecha. Toda esta labor viene a culminarse a finales de la década de los 80, cuando la OST obtiene el reconocimiento internacional de crítica, público y de los propios solistas que actúan con ella. Bajo la dirección de Víctor Pablo Pérez, la formación tinerfeña ha conseguido un sonido excepcional y una cohesión entre las diferentes secciones de instrumentos que ha sido alabada por figuras como el pianista polaco Krystian Zimerman, que de la orquesta y su director ha dicho: "...hay directores que no tienen una carrera al galope, y están dentro de este grupo que yo respeto especialmente. En este apartado está Víctor Pablo Pérez, al que pondría en el mismo grupo de Esa Pekka Salonen o Simon Rattle, personas que están dedicadas por entero a la música, que no viven de ilusiones vanas y cuyo ego no está reforzado. Para mi es ésta una experiencia que quiero preservar...y tocaron estupendamente bien, por cierto, como hacen siempre". La violinista coreana Kyung Wha Chung afirmó, tras un concierto con la orquesta tinerfeña que "...los componentes de la Sinfónica poseen una calidad y entusiasmo contagiosos". Expresiones parecidas han sido difundidas en distintos medios de comunicación por solistas de la talla de Mischa Maisky, Schlomo Mintz, Vladimir Spivakov o Dimitri Bashkirov que han participado en diferentes programas con la orquesta. La crítica tampoco ha sido parca en elogios hacia la OST en sus giras por Madrid, Zaragoza, Cataluña, Sevilla (Expo 92), o cuando ha participado en festivales internacionales como los de Canarias, Santander, Cuenca, Granada, Alicante, Castell de Peralada, o Quincena Musical Donostiarra. Una muestra del trabajo de la Sinfónica de Tenerife se encuentra recogida en una serie de grabaciones, editadas en veintiún discos compactos, que le ha valido el reconocimiento de la crítica internacional. Tiene en su haber el "Premio Ondas 1992" a la mejor grabación de música clásica (obras de Gerhard), así como el "Diapason DŽ" (mayo 94) por la grabación de la Zarzuela "Doña Francisquita" de Vives y nuevamente "Diapason DŽOr" (junio 95) por el registro de "El Barberillo de Lavapiés" de Barbieri. También se le ha concedido el Premio C.D. Compact, a la mejor producción española del 95, por las "Sinfonías 1 y 3" de R. Gerhard, disco que ha obtenido, en el MIDEM de enero de 1996, el premio CANNES CLASSICAL AWARDS. La temporada oficial de la OST está formada por unos ochenta conciertos, en los que se desarrollan 32 programas diferentes, además de un Ciclo de Música de Cámara. Junto a esta actividad, se ofrece un Ciclo de Jóvenes Intérpretes, en el que cada año participa un grupo de prometedores músicos canarios, cuya trayectoria y capacidad actuales, revelan una importante proyección futura. Asimismo participa en la temporada de ópera que organiza la Asociación Tinerfeña de éste genero, y en distintos recitales líricos. Entre los solistas que han actuado con la OST destacan, aparte de los ya citados, Roberta Alexander, Plácido Domingo, Alfredo Kraus, María Orán, Edith Mathis, Silvia Marcovici, Arleene Auger, Tom Krause, Lluís Claret, Philippe Entremont, Myung Wha Chung, Cecile Ousset, Joaquín Achúcarro, Andrei Gavrilov, Elena Obraztsova, Simon Estes, Ivo Pogorelich, Ernesto Bitetti, Patrick Gallois, Emanuel Ax, Federica Von Stade, Grigorij Sokolov, Midori, Brigitte Fassbaender, Gil Shaham...etc.
